When do Shacharit, Mincha and Maariv take place?
You can find the current times for Shacharit, Mincha and Maariv — including the start and end of Shabbat — at any time in our Calendar. Please always refer to the times for the current day.
Which Nussach (liturgy) is followed in the synagogue?
Our prayers follow Nussach Ashkenaz. The nigunim are mostly the classic Ashkenazi melodies, often supplemented by more contemporary nigunim, such as those of Carlebach.
Do I need to register in advance to attend the services?
No, no prior registration is required to take part in the prayers. You are warmly welcome at any time.
Are Shabbat candles available at the synagogue on Fridays?
Yes. Every Friday before the start of Shabbat, candles are provided for Hadlakat Nerot (candle lighting).
Why does Shabbat begin so early in summer?
It is our custom in Berlin to receive Shabbat before sunset, so that Kabbalat Shabbat and the Kiddush dinner can take place at a comfortable time.
Is there a Havdalah at the synagogue after Shabbat ends?
Yes. Every Motzaei Shabbat, after the Maariv prayer, we make Havdalah together for everyone.
In which part of Berlin is the synagogue located?
The Central Orthodox Synagogue of Berlin lies in the heart of Berlin’s West, in the Charlottenburg district, directly on the well-known Kurfürstendamm boulevard (Ku’damm). The nearest U-Bahn station bears the same name as the boulevard.
Are there hotels near the synagogue?
Yes, there are numerous hotels of various categories and price ranges near the synagogue. For hotels within walking distance, see the Observant Travel Guide on KosherBerlin.
What kosher options are there in Berlin?

Can larger groups also attend the services?
Yes, our synagogue offers ample room and can accommodate larger groups. Only on the High Holidays — Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur — when the shul is very full, we ask groups to contact us in advance.
Is there a Mikveh at your synagogue?
Yes, our Mikveh is located in the same building as the Central Orthodox Synagogue. The men’s Mikveh is open daily from Sunday to Friday — from 15 minutes before Shacharit for one hour and 15 minutes. The women’s Mikveh can be visited by prior arrangement; please call or send an email to [email protected].
Is there an Eruv in Berlin?
Unfortunately, there is currently no Eruv in Berlin.
